'The mind of a child is not a vessel to be filled. It is a lamp to be lit.'
Plutarch
originally founded The Olive Tree School in a cosy ground floor of a house in
central Sitges to provide a very different type of education from what was available
in the area.
I wanted children to have a piano, books all around them, Guinea pigs to love and a
warm, very caring team of experts to lead them into the exciting journey of intellectual
enquiry.
I wanted to create a very safe environment of around 12 children per class, where every
child was valued and felt free to articulate their views and grow to their maximum
confidence.
I wanted to allow children to be highly creative thinkers, to become effective problem
solvers and to feel they could make a difference in their community and in the wider
world.
I wanted them to question everything, to be free-thinkers, to be exhilarated and liberated
by the world of ideas.
In short, I wanted children to feel that school was a wonderfully exciting place to be.
I wanted to light the spark. And with my dedicated team of teachers, I think we are
doing so every day.
We started with 20 children and 2 teachers: in a year we have doubled our numbers to
40 children and 9 specialist teachers.
We are in a lovely, bright, purpose-built little school in the heart of the market town of
Sant Pere de Ribes, just 5 minutes from Sitges.
In 2012, we will open the doors of our secondary department for pupils aged between 11
and 18, also in the Sitges area.
It is very exciting to be part of this vibrant learning community and I’d be very happy to
share more of our work with you in person.
Come and meet us!
Warm regards,
